A 23 year old Sutherland man admitted two breaches of bail conditions at Inverness Sheriff Court today.

These were for visiting his grandmother's house in Helmsdale, where a bail condition applied, and being outwith curfew hours.

The court heard that John Cowie of Calder Crescent, Embo, was described as "destitute" after losing his job.

He had been visiting friends in Dunbeath – where he was treated to food and drink by friends – but then decided to walk home.

When he reached Helmsdale, he decided to stop at his grandmother's house to try and borrow money.

However, Cowie was on a bail condition not to be there and police, who had been alerted to a man staggering along the road, traced and arrested him. Officers then discovered he was outwith his curfew hours.

He admitted two breaches of bail conditions and sentence was deferred until July 30 when he has other matters calling.

His solicitor, Patrick O'Dea told the court: "He has no benefits having been made unemployed but he is going to do something about that."
