Crewman airlifted to hospital after fall on vessel north-west of Cape Wrath
An injured crewman was airlifted to hospital from far off the Sutherland coast yesterday.
The Stornoway Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was dispatched at 2.20am to the man who had fallen from a considerable height on a vessel 67 miles north-west of Cape Wrath.
He had suffered lower back and hip injuries and was winched from the boat to the helicopter who took him to Stornoway airport at 5.33am.
He was then taken to the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway on Lewis. His condition is unknown.
Less than three and a half hours later the helicopter was in the air again - this time to assist crew member aboard a trawler 67 miles north of the Butt of Lewis. He was also taken to the Western Isles Hospital after the helicopter returned to base at 11.40am. His condition is also unknown.
