Lochinver. The crash closed the A837 between the village and the A894 junction on the shores of Loch Assynt.

A WEST coast road was closed this morning after a crash near Lochinver.

Police said the A837, between Lochinver and the A894 junction close to Ardvreck Castle, was closed following a one vehicle crash shortly before 7.50am.

The vehicle, which the fire service described as a pick-up, had one male occupant. There was no information as to whether the male driver was injured.

Police received a call at 7.50am to reports of the crash, which they said took place "just outside Lochinver". Speaking shortly before 9.15am, a spokesman said the road was still closed and that emergency services were in attendance.

Two fire engines – from Scourie and Ullapool – were called to the scene by the ambulance service at 7.55am to help emergency crews remove the man from the vehicle.

Ullapool High School, meanwhile, has informed parents that one of its school buses was "caught on the wrong side" of the crash, and the pupils were taken home.

A spokesman said: "Confirmation that, because of the road accident just outside Lochinver, one of the school buses was caught on the wrong side and has been unable to make it into school today.

"Pupils have been taken home. The school bus north will run as normal at the end of the school day."
