ESSENTIAL workers living in a Sutherland town are being given the opportunity to make appointments for a mobile coronavirus testing unit in the area next week.

The testing unit — which is by appointment only – will be in Dornoch on Wednesday and Thursday (June 3 and 4) before going on to Ullapool on Friday and Saturday (June 5 and 6).

The service is aimed at allowing essential workers who display symptoms of Covid-19 to apply for a coronavirus test. It also applies to people who live with essential workers.

Essential workers listed by the government include all NHS and social care staff, people working in the health and social care supply chain, public services staff and transport workers.

An extensive list can be found here.

The drive-through tests aim to extend the geographical reach of testing as part of the strategy to tackle the virus.
