Councillor hopeful of Golspie car park upgrade after ‘robust conversation’

Improvements could be made to a car park in Golspie following a “robust conversation” between a local councillor and a senior Highland Council official.

Ward councillor Richard Gale has been experiencing some difficulties in his bid to get the Highland Council-owned parking area behind the Co-op in Golspie brought up to standard.

He told a meeting of Golspie Community Council yesterday evening that he had struggled to find out who was responsible for maintaining the car park.

He said: “It is getting passed around between parking, roads, education, and planning, and I am fed up with people saying,‘It is not mine, it is somebody else’s.’”

However, Cllr Gale said he had had talks about the issue with a Highland Council chief executive and felt a “step had been taken in the right direction”.

Responding to a question from council chairperson Henrietta Marriott, he confirmed the work would involve resurfacing and white-lining.
