With Caithness falling within a Level 4 Protection Area from Boxing Day (Saturday, December 26), Highland Council stresses that it is "essential" that all businesses make themselves aware of the restrictions that this brings.

Covid-19 guidance is available that helps clarify what businesses are permitted to remain open in a Level 4 Protection Area.

Restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars are required to close. Takeaways can still operate as normal – provided food and drink are sold for consumption off the premises. Only essential retail shops that have been outlined in the Scot Gov guidance can remain open. Businesses which are allowed to stay open will be expected to follow all other legal requirements, rules and guidance.

Alan Yates, Highland Council's environmental health manager said: "With the introduction of Level 4 restrictions, it is essential that all businesses take the opportunity to read the Scottish Government guidance and take the necessary steps to comply.

"The guidance clarifies what businesses are permitted to remain open and what steps, if any, must be taken to do so. We understand the impact that these restrictions will have on many businesses, however, we urge everyone to adhere to these new restrictions and help tackle Covid-19."
