Rogart community council announcement delayed
The coronavirus crisis has delayed an announcement of the results of an election to form a new Sutherland Community Council.
Rogart residents had expected to hear last week, the names of their new representatives.
Nineteen people put their names forward to stand for the body – more than twice the number required.
This meant an election had to be carried out with ballot papers posted to all registered electors in the community council area.
The papers had to be returned by last Wednesday, March 26, and it was anticipated there would be an announcement shortly afterwards.
But ward manager Phil Tomalin told the Northern Times he had been unable to undertake the count of votes because of the coronavirus crisis.
He said the authority had diverted him to work related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I hope to get to it soon and do see it as a priority," he said.
