Community councillors turn down request for virtual hustings

Golspie Community Council is turning down a request from two Holyrood candidates to host a virtual hustings.

Labour and Lib-Dem hopefuls Marion Donaldson and Molly Nolan, who are standing for election to the Caithness, Sutherland and Ross constituency, approached the community council with the request.

But members were divided when the issue was discussed at their online meeting last night.

Becky Shaw and Ian Miller felt it would be a good idea to hear from the six candidates standing for the seat.

However their colleagues were concerned at the organisation required and also about a perception of bias should not all the candidates turn up.

Chairman Iain Sutherland said: "I am not keen on it and I feel it is a bit late in the day."

Members agreed not to host a hustings.
