Dornoch Area Community Council is to discuss an application for a major housing scheme in the town at its October meeting.

Elgin based Springfield Properties is proposing to build 112 homes on land 120 metres north of Glenburn, Station Road.

The firm's land manager Stuart Morrison was present at last week's meeting of the community council when he answered various questions about the development.

Afterwards treasurer Jerry Bishop proposed that the community council approach the planning officer involved and ask if the time limit in which the community council had to respond to the application could be extended.

This would allow members to decide their stance on the development at their next meeting, scheduled to take place on October 20.

"We need to take our time," Mr Bishop said. "Highland Council is not going to come to a decision over this for months."

The community council is a statutory consultee on planning applications that fall into its area.
