New art work has been unveiled at Helmsdale Railway Station.

Professional artist Joanna Perry painted the murals after being commissioned by the community interest company that looks after the station.

The four works have been put up on the blocked-up windows of a single storey building used by Network Rail.

Funding came from the Ena Baxter Foundation and the ScotRail Cultural Arts Fund.

Local residents and school pupils attended the unveiling ceremony which was performed by Anne Sinclair, who used to work in the station office, and school pupil Aine Martin whose grandfather also worked there.

An art competition for Helmsdale children was launched at the ceremony.

Station company director Michael Willmot said: “We are delighted to be continuing our improvements to this station.”
