Clean-up of Raffin Beach in north-west Sutherland planned for end of March

Local organisations are joining forces to carry out a major clean-up of a north-west Sutherland beach at the end of March.

The North West Highland Beach Cleans group is linking with Assynt Field Club and the Assynt countryside ranger for the event at Raffin Beach, just south of Stoer Head.

It has been organised as part of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Spring Clean Scotland campaign, which runs between March 21 and April 21.

The beach clean will take place on Saturday and Sunday, March 22-23, with a further day on March 26 as part of the Field Club’s volunteer programme.

Beach clean group member Geoff Pringle said: “The tide is not particularly big, so we aim to be on site from 10am on Saturday, with an extra day on the Sunday to give us a bit of flexibility with the weather.

“The beach is remote, so dress accordingly and wear decent footwear, as it is a cobble beach. Bags and tonne bags, gloves, etc .,will be supplied. There may even be hot chocolate and biscuits!”
