The magic of Christmas is more than just a glib phrase for Golspie’s Clive Grewcock – it really is true.

For Clive is a magician who is finding that his skills are called upon more and more during the festive season.

Clive (44) spends the year travelling around and performing his close up magic at a variety of celebrations, dinners and events so why does the prospect of the festive season hold so much excitement?

He says: "I’m so lucky to work with a large collection of people who get involved with my magic which is the key because magic is all about people getting involved because so many people haven’t experienced close up magic at first hand and it becomes so memorable for them.

"But with Christmas heading this way there is an added magical element and the whole idea of magic and strange things happening bounces around so naturally and people create such a buzz this time of year."

Over the past few years, in particular, companies and families have recognised how this entertainment can lift the spirit of an event and take it in an unexpected direction.

This year is seeing Clive in discussion with clients across the Highlands and is a reflection of the hard work put in the past to achieve the goal of a professional magician.

He continues: "I guess my interest in magic started in my pre-teen years and I would absorb as much as I could understand, with the notion that I would love to perform ‘big style’ when grown up.

"Well now I’m grown up and the bug is still with me and I love to be baffled as much now as ever. I also realise that I am very fortunate to be working in an art which I have so much respect for."

Clive, who is also a professional photographer and is married with two children, adds: "As a performance art, little else creates that close connection with individuals and the ability to capture someone’s imagination, as magic. Roll on Christmas!"
