Child airlifted to hospital after dog attack in Helmsdale, police say enquiries ongoing

Police say enquiries are ongoing after a child was bitten by a dog at a play park in Helmsdale yesterday.

The incident took place at a park near Simpson Crescent in the Sutherland village on Sunday afternoon.

Scottish Ambulance Service, who dispatched one ambulance and one air ambulance to the scene, said the child was transported by air to Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

A spokesperson for Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 15:42 on Sunday, October 13 to attend an incident in Helmsdale.

“We dispatched one ambulance and one air ambulance to the scene. We transported one patient to Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3.50pm on Sunday, October 13, 2024, we received a report that a dog had bitten a child at a park in Helmsdale.

“The child was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing."
