Sutherland Community Care Forum has confirmed that it is now ready to welcome visits and face-to-face assistance, for people on its client list.

The forum has also made a new addition to its team with the appointment of development officer Shirley McHardy from Rogart.

Caroline Cousins, chairperson, said: "The forum are delighted to welcome Shirley who brings valuable experience to the office.

"Shirley works for two days a week, and sometimes helps Isobel Murray with the food distribution on Wednesday morning, but her main role is funding and assisting with the administration.

"The forum's partnership with Highland Hospice also widens our ability to help in the community and there are now several volunteers who are included in the NODA programme (No-one Dies Alone)."

Ms Cousins added that a shortage of volunteers has resulted in some aspects of the forum's work being curtailed.

The group are now encouraging people to volunteer to ensure the continuation of the forum's work.

Ms Cousins said: "Even if for only an hour or so a week, anyone wishing to offer their services should call Isobel Murray on 01408 634171. Training is offered to those who have not had experience of volunteering before."

Serving the area of east and central Sutherland, the forum offers home from hospital service, foot care service, hand massage and befriending service.
