Cannon fire signals start of East Sutherland Rotary Club’s classic car tour





Forty intrepid drivers along with their vehicles and navigators set off on the 10th Rotary Club of East Sutherland Classic Car Tour on Saturday, May 18, writes Tony Gill.

The tour began in the traditional way with Lord-Lieutenant Patrick Marriott firing a cannon.

This year the honorary starter was Cath Macangus, provost of Dornoch and chairperson of Dornoch Area Community Council.

The cars headed out of Dornoch and turned south across the Dornoch Firth Bridge. From there drivers took the Struie road and on to Strathpeffer for morning coffee at the Ben Wyvis Hotel.

After a short stop, it was on to Achnasheen and then the Gairloch Hotel for soup and sandwiches. After lunch the tour headed north towards Corrieshalloch Gorge before returning to the Dornoch Station Hotel for afternoon tea.

The tour is run with the aim of raising £5000 for charity. This year’s charities were the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance, Assynt Mountain Rescue Team and many small local charities supported by the Rotary Club of East Sutherland.
