AN appeal has gone out to the county's dog lovers to find a loving home for an elderly and overlooked Jack Russell terrier.
Poppy, who is being cared for at the Caithness and Sutherland animal rescue and rehoming centre at Balmore, needs to find a family who can help her live out her twilight years in comfort.
The Scottish SPCA has been looking after Poppy for around nine months now and staff at the centre are keen that the friendly wee terrier moves on to a forever home.
Centre manager Jimmy Gunn said: “Poppy has been in our care for 280 days and has been continuously overlooked.
“She is 13 years old so she is looking for somewhere to live out her twilight years. As she is getting on in age, she doesn’t require a great deal of exercise and enjoys short walks."
Poppy has been in our care for 280 days and has been continuously overlooked.
He added: “Poppy is a very friendly girl and loves a fuss to be made of her, but she does have quite a high prey drive so will need to go to a home without smaller animals or cats.
"She has lived in an outside kennel and also in a house. However, she will need further house training as she does have the odd accident."
What Poppy needs, said Mr Gunn, "is that special someone to come along and provide her perfect, loving retirement home”.
