They will be led by writer, director and producer Robert Aitken, who has over a decade of experience creating films about the people and of Sutherland, as well as four years of delivering accessible film training.

The Brora-born filmmaker will deliver the training as part of his Poetic Film School.

Mr Aitken said: “Poetic Film School is delighted to help seed this funded film project in offering opportunities to the people across the far North of Scotland.

“For the past four years Poetic Film School has been engaging with partners across Sutherland and Caithness through a series of pilot and one-off film-making training events to develop a more ‘arts based’ approach to filmmaking.

“This funding will enable all project partners to take this delivery to the next level.“

On his approach to the training on offer, he added: “We have a very unique fusion of Bardic and Skaldic traditions in the far north and this is reflected in the rich legacy of great written and poetic works.

“There’s a need for more reflective film training to follow that rich vein rather than the adding of more disposable digital content.

“Poetic Film School was instigated as a direct response to that need for all the people in the far North.”

“The legacy of the project will seed a new generation of filmmakers to help shape a film- making voice that better reflects the unique landscape of the far North - all in a better understanding of our place within Scotland and the wider world.” Robert concludes.

Sarah Forrest, manager of LDLC shared her enthusiasm: “We are delighted to be able to offer such exceptional training under the expert guidance of our experienced tutor Robert, and to champion a visionary revival of screen training with such an expansive and inspiring vision.”

Dates will be announced shortly.
