Dingwall Mart breeding cattle sale attracts huge crowd

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 217 adult head of breeding cattle at their special sale at an event which “attracted a huge crowd of potential purchasers”.

The bull show was kindly sponsored by Sellars Agri, Invergordon and judged by Mr Neil Wattie.

Bulling heifers (62) sold to £1,600 gross for a Simmental cross from Mains of Househill, Nairn.

Heifer with calf at foot (58) sold to £4,000 gross for a Simmental cross with a Limousin cross bullock calf at foot from Wester Bleaton Farm, Bridge of Cally.

In calf Heifer (11) sold to £1,400 gross from Rurach Croft, Inverinate.

Cow with calf at foot (44) sold to £3,300 gross 4 times for two British Blues with a British Blue heifer calves at foot from Shewglie, Glenurquhart and for a Limousin cross with a Limousin cross heifer calf and a Simmental cross with a Charolais cross calve from Pitgersie Farm, Newburgh.

In calf cow (22) sold to £1,550 gross for a Beef Shorthorn cross from 2 & 7 Burnbank, Invershin.

Bulls (20) sold to £6,500 gross twice for a British Blue from Craigiebank Farms, Forgie and for a Charolais from Wester Craiglands, Fortrose.

The verdict: “Dingwall Marts annual sale of beef breeding cattle once again attracted a huge crowd of potential purchasers who were keen to purchase in particular heifer with calves at foot which sold at increased values on the year. The re-instated show and sale of pedigree bulls was kindly sponsored by Sellars Agri, Invergordon and kindly judged by Mr Niel Wattie.

“The classes put forward to our judge were of sound quality and split into continental and native classes. Heading up the native class was Alison Watt and Gavin Petrie with their two-year-old Shorthorn bull which realised £3,000. However it was the second prize native bull from the same stable which headed the native section at £3,800 heading out to Skye to Mr Macinnes, 2 Glen, Dunvegan.

“It was the continental section however where our judge found his Overall Champion and Reserve with the continental first and second prize bulls. Champion ticket was awarded to annual consigner, another Dingwall loyalist Mr Rory Mckenzie, Wester Craiglands. His powerhouse of Charolais bull cashed in at £6,500 selling to Mr T Riddoch, Greenloan. Reserve overall was awarded to first time consigner Miss Sarah Balfour with an outstanding British Blue bull from her Fodderletter herd at Craigiebank Farm, Keith.

“A very correct bull in tremendous shape attracted a lot of interest from the gantry, it was telephone bidder Mr Ian Young, Duncrahill, however who purchased him at the sales joint top price of £6,500. Best other breed was awarded to Messrs Mackay, Wester Tomlaon with their British Bleu cross Simmental which cashed in at £4,800 heading north to Caithness to Swanson, Clatequay.”
