Local MP Jamie Stone has added his voice to calls for Boris Johnson to resign over the "partygate" row.
“The jig is up,” Mr Stone declared as the Prime Minister came under growing pressure to explain whether he attended a "bring-your-own-booze" party in the garden of 10 Downing Street on May 20, 2020.
The UK government's lockdown rules at that time meant people were limited to an outdoor meeting of just one person outside of their household.
Mr Stone, the Liberal Democrat MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, said today: “Since March 2020, my constituents have made unimaginable sacrifices to keep each other safe and reduce pressure on key workers within the NHS.
“Boris Johnson’s flagrant lawbreaking is an insult to every person in the far north who worked so hard to obey the rules.
“The Conservatives know that the jig is up – and they are right. The Prime Minister must resign.”
The Metropolitan Police is said to have been in contact with the UK government over "widespread reporting relating to alleged breaches" of Covid-19 rules.
