Bonar Bridge man accused of attempting to murder his mother





A 24 year old Bonar Bridge man is accused of attempting to murder his mother by repeatedly stabbing her on the head and body.

Struan Fraser appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court today.

He made no plea to the alleged offence which it is claimed occurred at his home in Carnmhor Road, and in the street outside on Thursday, July 17.

It is alleged that he assaulted Karen MacLeod, pursued her, and repeatedly struck her on the head and body with a knife, causing her to fall to the ground.

The charge further alleges that he then repeatedly struck her on the head and body with a knife whilst she was on the ground, all to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and to the danger of her life and did attempt to murder her.

He is also accused of possessing a knife in a public place without without reasonable excuse or lawful authority.

Fraser also faces a third charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a person fear or alarm in that he brandished a knife.

Fraser was represented by Inverness solicitor John MacColl who made no application for bail on his client's behalf.

Mr MacColl said afterwards: "My client will now undergo a mental health assessment."

Fraser is expected to appear again within the next eight days.

Ms MacLeod, who is aged 50, was flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness following reports of a disturbance on Thursday evening.

It is believed 11 police vehicle attended the scene along with two ambulances and the air ambulance.
