Bonanza for local groups as Royal Dornoch's community fund pays out £12k

MORE than 20 local good causes and charities are being boosted by grants from the Royal Dornoch Golf Club Community Fund.
Nearly £12,000 is being paid out this year to individual organisations falling within the IV25 area postcode.
Club captain Willie Mackay said the Council of Management had initially earmarked £10,000 to benefit the community.
But the community fund board had been impressed with the range and quality of the applications - and the club decided to approve payments totalling £11,7000.
“Two years ago, we opted to split £10,000 between the NHS Sutherland and the Dornoch Resilience Group as the community dealt with the pandemic,” said Mr Mackay.
“Last summer, with the vast majority of groups unable to run traditional events in the community, the club decided to put grants on hold until life in and around Dornoch returned to normal.
“Thankfully, the golf club is once again welcoming members and visitors from home and abroad.”
Mr Mackay added: “The fund was created to benefit the local community and luckily the golf club is in a position to support organisations which struggled with their usual fundraising activities as a direct result of the pandemic.”
Donations of £500 are being made to the following organisations: Children’s Services Workers (holiday camp activities); Dornoch Beach Wheelchairs (music for the disabled).
Dornoch Bonfire Night; Dornoch Bowling Club (sports benches project); Dornoch Campus ASN (language support for Ukrainian children); Dornoch City FC (children’s training kit).
Dornoch Community Garden (mower); Dornoch Cricket Club (ground clearance); Dornoch Firth Campus (football coaching); Dornoch Flowers and Fayre (plants and fuel costs).
Dornoch Juniors FC (equipment); Dornoch Pipe Band (tutor costs); Dornoch Primary (sports activities).
East Sutherland Rescue Association (volunteer training); Embo FC (restart costs).
Historylinks Young Curators Club (workshops); Holiday Club (Dornoch Free Church).
SMART Fitness for Seniors (equipment); St Finnbarr’s Charity Shop (gazebo); Sutherland Care Forum (footcare kits); Sutherland Junior Squash Club (coaching); and the Meadows Nursing Home (garden pathway).
In addition, Dornoch Academy Parents Council received £350 towards the costs of holding their popular St Andrews Ceilidh and Dornoch Boys Brigade secured a similar grant to cover travel costs of excursions.
