The new operators of the Ben Bhraggie Hotel in Golspie have raised nearly £13,000 of the estimated £25,000 costs of renovating the premises.

Bruce MacGregor, owner of MacGregor’s Bar in Academy Street, last month confirmed that he was taking over the running of the Ben Bhraggie.

A crowdfunder to “build the bar at MacGregors at the Ben” was launched last Friday, May 21, with a target set of £25,000.

Supporters were offered a series of perks and rewards such as bar tabs, members’ cards and limited edition merchandise.

Mr MacGregor said that 40 per cent of the target figure had been raised in just three days after the fundraiser went live, with people from as far afield as Canada and America taking part.

The amount raised is now standing at £12,854 with contributions made by 54 backers.

Once the redevelopment is complete, the Ben Bhraggie will have a main dining area and bar, and a second smaller bar, as well as a number of other rooms and a large, outdoor beer garden.

Mr MacGregor said that work was set to start on the building exterior next week. When open the Ben Bhraggie will offer entertainment with food and drink.
