An award-winning Wester Ross restaurant is set to feature in a brand-new Channel 4 documentary set against the backdrop of the North Coast 500.

The Dipping Lugger, located in Ullapool, will be a focal point of the new series - Britain’s Most Beautiful Road - which is due to air from 8pm on Saturday.

Four 60-minute episodes will chart the trials and tribulations of those who live, work and drive along the length of the NC500 as it winds its way along the northernmost parts of Scotland's coastline.

From its start in Inverness, the route takes in some of Scotland’s most dramatic scenery visiting Gairloch, Ullapool, Wick, Thurso, and The Black Isle in the process, before returning to Inverness some 516 miles later.

Along the way, viewers will be introduced to local business owners, including artisan craftspeople, restaurateurs, and food producers, situated in the small towns and villages dotted along the route.

Local business owner and potter David Grant of Highland Stoneware, which operates in Lochinver and Ullapool, is among those to be featured.

The programme catches up with David as he crafts a range of bespoke crockery for multi-award-winning Ullapool restaurant and rooms, The Dipping Lugger.

The episode follows his progress as he delivers his wares to The Lugger’s head chef David Smith, who then sets about creating and refining test dishes that will eventually be served on the crockery delivered to the kitchens.

Co-owner of the Dipping Lugger, Robert Hicks said: ‘’We were very happy to feature in the programme, it gives an insight into what makes this part of the world tick.

“It also explains the pressures that come with tourism but also the advantages and opportunities that tourism can bring to the region in terms of job creation and business opportunities, whilst at the same time showcasing this beautiful part of the world which we are all lucky to call home.’’

The whole series will be available on demand after broadcast on channel4.com.
