Ullapool Bookshop ‘packed’ with fans to see renowned author of The Last Witch of Scotland

Ullapool Bookshop was “packed” with fans, as the renowned author of The Last Witch of Scotland dropped into the shop for a talk and book signings.

Philip Paris visited the bookshop to give a talk about the Scottish witchcraft trials of the 16th to 18th centuries, as well as answer questions and sign the books of keen readers.

His book, The Last Witch of Scotland, was published in April 2023 and is inspired by the by the story of Janet Horne — the last person in the UK to be executed for witchcraft in 1727, alongside her daughter.

At the court case held in Dornoch, they were both found guilty and sentenced to be executed the following day.

Fascination around the subject of Scottish witch trials has captured attention of readers native to the Highlands, and those visiting.
