Appeal for Scottish film or video footage

Sir – I am writing to appeal for film or video footage for a research project the University of Glasgow are undertaking in conjunction with the Scottish Screen Archive, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

The Scottish Screen Archive is a publicly funded organisation established in 1976 to locate, preserve, and provide access to films and videos gathered from all over Scotland to reflect Scottish life, history and culture. In 2007 we became part of the National Library of Scotland.

However, recent decades are not well represented in the national collection.

Therefore we are particularly seeking material to preserve as examples of Scottish life, society, industry, and culture from the 1970s to the present.

We are very keen to preserve material from video workshops, community groups, or action groups; cine and video clubs; promotional films for local industries, charities or tourism; sport and leisure; footage depicting significant changes in local communities; or special community events such as gala days or millennium celebrations.

We will accept film or videotape in any format, including productions created on digital media, fiction or non-fiction, amateur or professional.

I would be delighted to hear from anyone who may have footage that they would like to donate. Project information and an online submission form are available to download at www.gla.ac.uk/cams Kay Foubister, Curator, Scottish Screen Archive, 39-41 Montrose Avenue, Hillington Park, Glasgow G52 4LA.
