BOOKWORMS will finally be able to lend books from another batch of Highland libraries which closed their doors when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, after High Life Highland announced their reopening.
The team at High Life Highland has confirmed that eight more of its libraries will reopen over the next week – including Brora's.
Principal libraries manager, Julie Corcoran, said: “High Life Highland has been delighted to be able to open a number of libraries across the Highlands since the regulations around the lockdown were relaxed.
“We have been offering a ‘click and collect’ service at libraries throughout the Highlands for the last number of weeks and have been delighted with the feedback received from customers making use of the services.
Announcing the next phases of libraries to start the same service, the library manager said: “Between now and the end of the month, we will be reopening libraries in Badenoch, Broadford, Brora, Cromarty, Grantown, Muir of Ord, Portree and Tain.
“This means that staff previously placed on furlough leave will be brought back to support the operation of these locations. Explaining how the system works, Ms Corcoran outlined: “All our systems are full compliance with Scottish Government guidelines offering as Covid-safe environment as we can.
“Customers can reserve books by contacting their local library by email or telephone. They will be allocated a slot to collect their books, with a similar method operating to return their books and pick up new ones.
“We are looking forward to welcome many of regular customers back to these eight libraries as they re-open over the next few days.”
Steve Walsh, chief executive at High Life Highland, said: “This is yet another example of High Life Highland’s ongoing bounceback. It is really fantastic to see more libraries coming onstream in a safe and secure way, allowing our customers to re-engage with a service that we know many have been badly missing.”
