Anderson's records unbroken at Dornoch
Dornoch Highland Gathering attracted one of the best Heavy entries on the Scottish Games circuit last weekend.
But the super strong athletes still could not touch legendary Scottish Heavy Bill Anderson's 40 year old hammer records.
Bill and his wife Francis were guests at this year’s Highland Games, and while Bill said he felt the Heavies were capable of reaching his 1968 Light Hammer and 1969 Heavy Hammer Record, on the day they all fell short of the distance.
An extra incentive was publicised, in that £500 extra prize money was put up for Hammer records that were broken. Nine Heavies competed for the Robin Miller Medal and the Alastair Shaw Memorial Trophy but even Rusty Price, current World Heavy Champion, could just manage 126ft 1” when trying to reach the incredible 141ft 9” of Bill Anderson’s forty year old record. It was Craig Sinclair of Aberdeen who came within 5 feet on the Heavy Hammer Record with his 111ft 4” compared to Anderson’s 116ft 8”.
