POLICE have named the man who died in a road traffic accident near Alness last week and urged anyone who might have information about the incident to come forward.

The accident happened at around 5.10pm on the A9 at Alness Point on Friday and involved a collision between a grey Peugeot 208 and a grey Ford Edge.

The man who died has been officially named as Ryan Smith (25) from Alness. The father-of-one was widely known as Ryan MacDonald.

He was the driver of the Peugeot.

The occupants of the Ford - a man and a woman - suffered what police described as minor injuries.

Sergeant Alan Henderson of the Road Policing Unit in Dingwall offered sympathy to Mr MacDonald's family and friends. He added: "Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this tragic incident and we would urge anyone who has information but has not yet spoken to an officer to come forward.

"We are grateful to everyone who has assisted with our enquiries so far."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2861 of November 29.
