Celebrity golf is returning to Golspie five years after the inaugural event in 2014.

The success of that weekend spurred on the promoters – the Golspie-based charity the Silver Rock Foundation supported by Golspie Golf Club – to organise a follow up competition this year on Saturday, September 21.

Celebrities who have signed up so far include Life on Mars actor Phillip Glenister; Game of Thrones and Casualty star Clive Mantle; Bob Gwilym of The Bill and Ashes to Ashes; Game of Thrones’s Robert Pugh and Shameless and Poldark actor Sean Gilder plus many others.

They will head up 18 teams of four, which will include local golfers, in a shotgun start competition beginning at 10am. Members of the public are invited to follow their favourites around the course.

The aim of the day is to raise funds for the Silver Rock Foundation and the Butterfly Trust, which provides face-to-face social support to those in Scotland suffering from cystic fibrosis.

A sumptuous fund-raising dinner dance and auction is to be held at night at Dunrobin Castle. Invited guests will include the celebrities, local helpers and representatives from the Silver Rock and Butterfly Trust. However, there are still some tickets left for members of the public, priced at £80. If you wish to attend, please email jimmy.yuill56@gmail.com

Actor Sean Gilder was at the previous Celebrity Golf and says: “That was the most rewarding and enjoyable charity golf day I have attended and I know others feel the same.

“I came to see for myself last year how some of the money from Silver Rock is directly contributing to such as the Shore Street projects and the work at the Adult Learning Centre in Brora. I visited the centre and spent an afternoon with the guys and gals – it was overwhelming.”

Silver Rock has supported several local young sports stars and held a week-long Soundwaves project of fun and creativity for deaf youngsters. Soundwaves 2 is to be held in April next year. Also planned is Silver Rock Forestry, an ambitious tree planting scheme involving young people and members of the Brora learning centre.

n The organisers have announced that they have been given four tickets to auction for singer songwriter George Ezra’s sold out performances at the Albert Hall on September 24-25. These are offered to bidders at the Dunrobin Castle auction but also the wider public so anyone wishing to put in a bid should again email jimmy.yuill56@gmail.com
