Emergency services are in attendance after a two-vehicle crash closed the A99 both ways at Mid Clyth.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the scene by police at 3.24pm to assist with cutting equipment following a collision between a car and small van.

Two appliances attended - one from Wick and one from Helmsdale.

There was no immediate word as to whether there were any injuries.

An air ambulance is understood to have flown to the scene.

Traffic Scotland has said that “alternative routes are recommended currently”.

They added: “The A99 is currently closed in both directions between Bruan and Blackness due to a road traffic incident. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route at this time and allow extra time for their journey.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “The A99 is closed in both directions at Lybster and traffic is being diverted from Wick to Latheron following a two vehicle crash that was reported at 3.15pm on Thursday. Emergency services are at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
