AN 18-night £795,000 programme of roadworks on a key stretch of the A9 in the north is set to be affected by an adverse weather forecast.

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s north west trunk road operating company, is carrying out essential surfacing improvements on the A9 Tore Roundabout and north of the roundabout.

Works at the A9 Killen junction have been cancelled tonight (Tuesday) and will restart tomorrow night.

The updated plan for the work is as follows:

Phase 1: North of Killen Junction:

Surfacing improvements started north of the Killen Junction on October 1 and will last ten working nights with all works scheduled to be completed by 6am on the morning of Tuesday, October 15. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

It’s a major programme of work on a very-well used stretch of the A9.

Phase 2: South of Killen Junction and Tore Roundabout:

Further surfacing improvements will then start south of the Killen Junction and on the Tore Roundabout at 8pm on Tuesday, October 15 and will last a further eight working nights with all works scheduled to be completed by 6am on the morning of Saturday, October 26. No work will take place on Friday or Saturday, October 18 and 19.

To ensure the safety of workers and road users, temporary traffic signals with a convoy system and 10mph speed limit will be used each night. The A9 will be open outwith working hours to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative said: “This crucial surfacing project on the A9 between Tore Roundabout and the B9169 will fix existing defects and significantly enhance the driving experience for all motorists.

“Our teams are committed to executing these works quickly and with safety as our top priority. We extend our gratitude to the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.

“To minimise delays, we recommend that motorists plan their journeys in advance by consulting the Traffic Scotland website for real-time travel updates.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot, X @trafficscotland or on the mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
