The A9 is currently closed around five miles north of Aviemore following a two car crash that happened around 12.50pm.

Emergency services are at the scene on the Inverness-Perth road.

Traffic is being diverted via Carrbridge and the road is likely to be closed for some time.

Police Scotland have said the diversion is not suitable for HGVs.

A force spokesman said they were unable to provide any update on injuries at this stage.

He confirmed that police, ambulance and fire services remained at the scene.

There is no indication when the road – which is closed in both directions – will reopen.

It is understood that traffic is being diverted at the Blackmount junction on the A9.

Police were unable to give a precise location for the accident but said that it had occurred between the stretch from Aviemore to Carrbridge.
