A FURTHER 67 new Covid-19 cases have been detected across the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of infections rose from 3028 to 3095 when the Scottish Government published its latest daily update at 2pm.

Across Scotland there were 1782 new positive tests in the past 24 hours. This represented 11.5 per cent of all tests carried out over that time window.

Some 1664 people were receiving treatment for Covid-19 in Scottish hospitals last night – up 126 the previous day and “quite a bit above” the level during the original pandemic peak last spring, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned.

Of those 1664, some 126 were in intensive care – an increase of three on the previous day.

And sadly one further person who tested positive in the previous 28 days has since died.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new infections in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

NHS Grampian’s overall number of cases rose 121 to 10,178.

And NHS Tayside’s total now stands at 10,176 after it reported 129 new infections.

There have now been 151,548 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic began.

In other news, the latest daily update confirmed that the number of Covid vaccination sites that are now active across Scotland has risen to 11,000, most of which are local GP surgeries.
