MORE than 1000 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed across the whole NHS Highland area since the pandemic began.

The region passed through the 1000 mark when the latest daily update was published by the Scottish Government.

In the past day, the area reported 14 fresh positive tests – taking the cumulative total to 1008. More than 370 of those cases were reported in the past month.

Nationally, there were 1327 positive tests across Scotland in the past 24 hours.

The country's rising number of hospitalised cases also continued to increase – rising from 1052 to 1100 since yesterday's update.

Of those, some 82 people were requiring intensive care treatment – down eight.

But, sadly, there were 25 newly reported deaths among people who previously tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north, there were no fresh cases of Covid-19 in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

NHS Grampian reported 22 fresh infections, taking its running tally to 3240.

And NHS Tayside reported 63 new cases, for a cumulative total of 2838.

There have been 59,201 positive tests across the whole of Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.
