THREE Sutherland motorcylists are alleged to have been travelling at an even faster speed than that of which they were previously accused when charged with dangerous driving.

The trio, Allan Mackay, 58, of Reay House, The Doll, Brora; Roy Fraser, 48, of 7 Stafford Terrace, Brora; and 66-year-old George Moodie, of Foxfield, Backies, Golspie, have  pleaded not guilty.

The dangerous driving charge alleged that they drove at an excessive speed on the A9 at Badbea, Berriedale, on July 13, last year.

However, Wick fiscal Ross Carvel successfully applied to Sheriff Andrew Berry yesterday for leave to amend the charge to read "a grossly excessive speed".

The evidence in the case includes video footage and once the fiscal receives it, he will make arrangements for both defence and prosecution to view it in advance of the trial on April 26.
