The woman responsible for bringing millions of pounds of grant funding to the south east Sutherland area, has been invited to Windsor Castle next month for the royal wedding.
Helen Houston, from Golspie, development manager of the Kyle of Sutherland development trust (KoSDT), was nominated to attend the marriage of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle by Sutherland’s Lord Lieutenant, Dr Monica Main, in recognition of her work in the community.
Helen will be accompanied by Beverley Hill, who runs the trust’s “Keep Active Together” and “Community Food Stop” projects to promote health and wellbeing.
Members of the public from around the United Kingdom have learned this week that they will be amongst the 2640 people guests on 19th May.
The couple have said they wanted their wedding day to be shaped to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations. They asked Lord Lieutenants throughout the UK to invite 1200 people to join the celebrations, including young people who have shown strong leadership, and those who have served their communities.
Beverley Hill said: “I am delighted to be accompanying Helen to the royal wedding. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and certainly one that I never thought would come my way. I am so pleased that the trust is being recognised in this way, for everything it has done and will continue to do, in our community.”
Helen added: “It was a real surprise when the Lord Lieutenant contacted me to ask if I would like to attend, but I am honoured that the work of the trust is being acknowledged. I am delighted to be one of the people representing Sutherland at the celebration. Now I just need to choose my outfit!”
