Cocoa Mountain’s shop at Durness has been named among the world’s most unique places to enjoy chocolate, according to a national newspaper.
The Independent has this week named the firm’s remote north coast outlet on its top 20 global list that includes chocolatiers in Finland, Fiji, Bulgaria, Italy, USA and Iceland.
Cocoa Mountain was the only UK outlet on the choc chart.
The newspaper guide read: "Based in Balnakeil on the NC500 route around the north coast of Scotland, Cocoa Mountain is one of the most remote chocolate producers in Europe.
"Every truffle and chocolate is hand-made on site, and the company opened a second outlet in Royal Dornoch in 2017, serving what it says is the world’s ‘Best Hot Chocolate’."
For Cocoa Mountain, whose fans include celebrities and customers around the globe, it was yet another accolade.
Said co-owner Paul Maden: "We are absolutely delighted with this recognition which acknowledges that we serve fantastic chocolate in an amazing location.
"Business has always boomed for us over the Easter period, especially our luxury Easter eggs. We have even sent some to Switzerland! The season seems to have started earlier with plenty of tourists about and it’s shaping up to be a great year."
