He stated: “The school nursery will therefore operate as normal for the new school session in August.”

It had been suggested that the nursery could be absorbed into the private day care facility Sutherland Stepping Stones, also located at Brora Primary school, as part of a service level agreement.

At a meeting held in Bora on February 13, officials stated the move to transfer the nursery to Stepping Stones was not being driven by budget constraints but instead because it was felt it would be “more effective” and nd would provide “seamless provision”.

However, Mr Jackson warned that the nursery class could still be reviewed in the future, if circumstances changed significantly.

He added: “Any proposal to close the school nursery would be subject to the consultation processes set out in the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010.

Parents and local residents took to social media to express their delight at the decision.

Victoria Ballantyne said: “Well done to everyone involved. These nursery spots are so important if we want to keep attracting new and returning families to the area.”

Rotarian Alistair Risk posted: “New jobs, new people and new kids are what is needed to ensure schools and pre-schools are safe in Brora and across the Highlands. Well done in winning the battle, the war will go on!”

Christine Port wrote: “This is great news. Well done to everyone who supported the cause.

”And Morag Lindsay posted: “Well done all for your fighting spirit and the result."
