THE FEIS Chataibh Ceilidh Trail is once again ready to hit the road.

Ten talented musicians are set to embark on a series of concerts and ceilidhs throughout Caithness and Sutherland to promote the music and culture of the Highlands.

Auditions were held in Golspie in February and those selected were Ailsa Quirie (Portskerra), Jayne Paterson (Strathy), Heather Shelley (Golspie), Malcolm Paton (Golspie), Jennifer Stewart (Golspie), Blair Teska (Golspie), Siobhan Monaghan (Lairg), Amy Cameron (Brora), Eleanor Moncur (Golspie) and Catriona Murray (Golspie).

The musicians play a range of instruments including fiddle, pipes, guitar, keyboard, accordion and whistle. The talented youngsters have been brought together for two weeks of rehearsals, one week during their Easter holidays, and the second during this week.

They will begin the Ceilidh Trail with a session performance in Golspie Golf Club tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm followed by a fundraising ceilidh in Fountain Road Church Hall, Golspie, at 7pm tomorrow (Saturday). All other dates can be found in the advert on the back page of this newspaper.

"The musicians this year are of a very high standard and will provide a fantastic evening of entertainment in each of the venues," said Jennifer Port, tour organiser and co-ordinator.

The musicians will play afternoon concerts in local care homes and visitor attractions, then evening ceilidh concerts in village halls and venues.

The Ceilidh Trail has been made possible thanks to funding from Feisean nan Gaidheal, the Robertson Trust, Highland Council and the Scottish Arts Council.
