THE highly acclaimed Gaelic-language film Seachd – The Inaccessible Pinnacle will be getting a special screening in Assynt this weekend thanks to local group Còmhlan Gàidhlig Asainte. The screening, to be held in Drumbeg Village Hall at 7.30pm tomorrow (Saturday), is one of a series of events organised by the group over the past three months aimed at raising awareness of and reviving interest in the Gaelic language throughout Assynt. Author and actor Angus Peter Campbell, the film's leading actor, will attend the screening to introduce the film, to talk about how it was made, and to discuss its themes with the audience. In Gaelic with English subtitles and directed by Simon Miller, the film was shot in just 25 days on the Isle of Skye and released in 2007. Chairman of Còmhlan Gàidhlig Asainte, Grahame Perrie, said: "Described as the first feature-length film in Gaelic, the project may be simply understood as a lyrical story told in the authentic language of the place where it unfolds. "However, at a time of understated, if not at times difficult and unwilling debate about the role of Gaelic language and culture as a thoroughly neglected aspect of Scottish identity, the film begs some interesting questions." Tickets for the Drumbeg screening cost £4 each or £6 for two, and the price includes refreshments for the post-screening discussion. |
