Burns Supper – The regular, informal Burns Supper was held at the Crask Inn on Friday, 25th January, with about 50 people attending, many of whom brought contributions for the two course meal of traditional haggis, neaps and tatties, followed by a grand variety of delicious sweets.

Proceeds from a raffle and donations amounted to around £360 which went to Altnaharra School funds.

The evening began with the haggis being whistled in by Katy Robinson from Forsinard, with Lesley Morrison, the school teacher from Altnaharra carrying the haggis aloft, helped by pupil Tiegan Johnstone. Tha address was made by mine host at the Crask, Kai Geldard, and the Selkirk Grace delivered by Charlotte Norrie, Catherine Mackay and Shona Cameron, pupils from Lairg School.

After the buffetstyle meal there was a ceilidh with the recitation of Burns poems by school pupils, songs from Burns and general traditional songs, and a grand mix of music on a variety of instruments, as well as some community singing. Artistes performing were:- Tiegan Johnstone from Altnaharra who recited 'The Sair Finger’ and a poem about a crocodile and she also played a few tunes on her tin whistle. Then Charlotte Norrie, Catherine Mackay and Shona and Louise Cameron did recitations and Catherine played her tin whistle.

Adults who took part were Jane Mackay and her son Kerr from Melness on accordions, Fran and Frank Green from Lairg on fiddle, Katy Robinson from Forsinard on guitar and whistle, Alexander Mackay from Lairg on accordion, David Johnstone on the bodhran, John Quinn from Lairg solos and Tom Geldard from Crask and Fraser Macneill from Lairg on guitars.
