The Stephen Smyth Band, who hail from Northern Ireland, recently claimed their second Caithness Triple C Country Music Club band of the year award, having also won the prize in 2019 — and they are now looking to make their mark in Brora.

The band, who have been playing together for over 30 years and have recorded 10 albums, travel north on the back of a successful residential weekend in Blackpool, performing for a crowd of 250.

Lorraine Christie, the owner of organisers LWC Events, said: “We have been looking for different venues to broaden our audience for these types of events. I got chatting to the Social Club and they expressed some interest in doing some music events, so we got going from there.

“Country music is on the way up. Beyonce singing a country song (Texas Hold 'Em) has turned attention to that genre of music and there’s a lot more to come from it.

“Brora Rangers Social Club are keen to get the community together and to utilise their venue so we were delighted to arrange this event with them. We hope that if its a success we can also take it to venues in Golspie, Helmsdale and further afield.

“Tickets are moving fast, as we’ve had interest from as far north as Caithness, all the way down to Tain, so we expect a good crowd. It is a great chance for people to join us for a night of great music, dancing and craic. Hopefully people come and support it, and enjoy themselves.”

The event, to be held on Friday, May 3, begins at 9pm and is expected to run until midnight. Tickets are now on sale priced at £15 per person from buy.stripe.com/dR69AXecCb5ue8UdRp.
