The Highland Kickboxing Club, based in Lairg, took part in the WKA Scottish Championships in The Ravenscraig Sports Arena, Wishaw, on Sunday.
This is a pre-qualifier for the world kickboxing championships, to be held in America in September. Five hundred competitors from around Scotland took part in 90 categories.
Luke Murray (right), from Bonar Bridge, brought home a third place trophy in the -85kg light contact (continuous) category, qualifying for a place in the world championships. On the way he fought several opponents more experienced, including those who had achieved black belt status.
The head of WKA Scotland commented on the impressive performance of a novice fighter against more seasoned competitors.
Justin Ridley, club instructor, also competed, and came away with third in the veterans category in his first competition in several years.
The club, due to lack of support, no longer meets in Lairg. Classes are now available in Bonar Bridge Community Hall on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings, at 6 pm, for a children's class, at 7pm for an hour's fitness, and then a sparring hour at 8pm.
The club have also just started classes in Dornoch Social Club and are looking to begin classes in Golspie very shortly.
