MEMBERS and friends of East Sutherland Wheelers were privileged to be able to welcome  paralympic gold medallist Karen Darke MBE as guest speaker at their recent prize giving dinner.

Karen has been a member of the British Cycling para-cycling team since 2010. She won silver in the London 2012 paralympic women’s time trial and went on to win gold in the same event in Rio in 2016.

Karen spoke of her love of adventure and climbing and of the “wouldn’t it be amazing” inspirational thoughts which have led her to undertake physical challenges across the globe.

Overall winner of the  club time trial championship was Tim Featherstone with Kirsteen Cockburn winning the female category and Catriona Scott the junior. Alan Cockburn won the scratch competition and, as recently appointed president of the club, he paid tribute to the volunteers who organised the club’s events.
