Brora Rangers 3
Strathspey Thistle 0
BRORA Rangers got a helping hand when they picked up all three points against 10-man Strathspey Thistle at Dudgeon Park last Saturday.
The home side led 2-0 thanks to goals from Craig Ross and Steven MacKay when Thistle goalkeeper Willie Ridgers was sent off by referee Dougie Ross. The keeper was adjudged to have handled outside the box but despite the protests of even the Brora players the match official produced a red card.
To rub salt into the wounds, Steven MacKay curled the free kick past substitute goalkeeper Cammy Dudgeon to make the points safe.
Teenage forward Craig Ross missed a couple of early chances as Brora went for the jugular then Steven MacKay forced a fine save from Ridgers.
Despite most of the pressure, Brora had to wait until the 36th minute for the opener.
Steven MacKay picked out Craig Ross with a low cross and the youngster beat Ridgers from six yards.
Thistle almost hit back immediately when Marc Macdonald broke clear on goal but Brora keeper John Allan, making his first start for the club, raced from his goal to make a crucial block.
The home side made a perfect start to the second half when they doubled their lead in the 47th minute.
Ross Tokely, making his home debut, played a long ball to substitute Liam Baxter, whose inch perfect cross was headed home by Steven MacKay.
Brora had chances to kill the match but in a breakaway move the Speysiders almost reduced the deficit. A shot from Sandis Reinsons looked in all the way but Allan pulled off a fantastic save to deny the Thistle forward.
It was all over as a contest when Steven MacKay added a third after Thistle were reduced to 10 men in the 67th minute after Ridgers was sent packing.
Brora – Allan, J Ross, Tokely, Houston (Hind 46), J MacKay, M MacLean, C Ross (Bruce 75), Hart, Grant (Baxter 46), S MacKay, Greig. Unused subs – Lamb, Ridgers.
TOMORROW (Saturday), Brora head down the east coast to Banff to play Deveronvale at Princess Royal Park – kick-off 3pm.
