Brora Rangers suffer defeat in nine-goal thriller

Brora Rangers 3 Deveronvale 6

BRORA Rangers and Deveronvale produced a nine-goal thriller at Dudgeon Park last Saturday - but unfortunately for the home side they only managed to score half as many goals as the visitors.

It started so well for Brora when they took the lead in the fourth minute when Liam Baxter scored from 12 yards, after he latched on to a Kyle MacLean flick on.

The home side should have been further ahead five minutes later when Steven Ross burst into the box but he shot straight at Vale goalkeeper James Blanchard.

But Vale got back on level terms in the 14th minute when Leigh Henderson nodded home a Mike McKenzie corner in at the back post.

The conditions were making it difficult for the players but it was Vale who took advantage when they took the lead six minutes from the break when Grant Noble got on the end of another McKenzie corner.

A couple of early goals after the break put Vale out of sight.

McKenzie found Graeme Watt in space in the 46th minute and he drilled the ball past McCarthy to make it 3-1.

McKenzie added a fourth eight minutes later with a stunning goal. The veteran forward turned his marker and fired an unstoppable 30-yard shot into the top corner of the net.

Brora were not completely out of it, however, and Steven Ross reduced the deficit in the 66th minute when he nodded in a Chris Moir cross after his first effort was parried by Blanchard.

But Vale restored their three goal lead five minutes later when Chris Blackhall got on the end of yet another McKenzie corner to head home.

The goals kept coming and Craig Cowie made it 6-2 in the 81st minute with a clinical finish after McKenzie and Noble linked up.

Brora netted a late consolation when Danny MacKay scored from close range following a Baxter corner.

Brora Rangers: McCarthy, Finlayson (Smith 71), MacLean (Kerr 78), Lamont, Golabek, D MacKay, Ross, MacKintosh, Murray (Moir 54), MacLeod, Baxter. Unused subs - J MacKay, Allan.

* BRORA will be looking to add to their points tally when they travel to play Fort William at Claggan Park tomorrow (Saturday).
