Stand up and be heard

Sir – I was very sad after reading about the proposals for the Lawson Memorial Hospital (NT February 3).

I feel the meeting, which took place with various groups, should have been an open meeting with the public, for the whole of Sutherland.

They propose to demolish the Outpatient Department and upgrade Cambusavie to a 25-bed unit, which will mean more money, as no doubt alterations will have to be made.

I would like to make the following points:

  •  What is going to happen to the staff?
  •  A few years ago rooms were brought up to a very high standard with money raised from the public.
  •  Money has been raised by the public and given to the Lawson Memorial Hospital – where has that gone?
  •  Money given to the Lawson was for a hospital, nothing else.
  •  Where are all our councillors and community councillors in the county? Stand up and be heard.
  •  A few posts cut out in administration would solve the problem as regards money.
