Sir - I, too, would like to congratulate Dornoch Academy's achievement in the Herald's league tables.
My oldest son did vocational studies at Dornoch and with the support and encouragement of his teachers, especially Mrs Gordon, he was shortlisted to LANTRA's Landbased and Aquaculture trainee of the year 2011.
He was runner-up, receiving his award at Crieff Hydro Hotel in March.
Unfortunately, there is some doubt as to whether his brother and sister can continue at this excellent school. We have been advised, that although we live in Sutherland, we will no longer get concessionary school transport and will have to pay if we continue to choose Dornoch as our school of choice.
Many have been put in the difficult position, at short notice, of having to decide if we can afford the costs involved - especially if multiple family members attend - or unsettle our children by moving them and trying to find comparable courses at Tain.
Thath is not always easy as Dornoch children choose their options at the end of first year and start sitting exams in third year.
As Mr Mackay in your letters page last week quotes: "Some are born into homes where the parents are committed to support the education of their children."
It is a pity that the Highland Council transport unit is so inflexible in their support of children already established at Dornoch Academy - M Munro, 17 Oakwood Place, Ardgay.
