Installation of solar photo-voltaic panels - worth a thought, eh?

Sir – The controversial subject of wind farms constantly appears in the local press.

There are substantial funds returning to communities in the affected areas but the focus of the use of these funds often fails to benefit all members of the community.

If these funds were used to subsidise the installation of solar photo-voltaic panels on all the local houses, the community would really benefit. Local people would get cheap electricity (or free) and, potentially, during our long summer days, income would be made.

The installation of these panels could provide local employment for some of our young people, would be good for the planet and far less wasteful, as the electricity generated would, in the main, be used locally.

The cost of this technology is rapidly decreasing, making it much more affordable, and government subsidy is also available. All it takes is a bit of imagination to use the funds in this sort of way.

Worth a thought, eh? Cheap electricity, local jobs and good for the planet, can that be bad?

Jenny Butterworth, 124 Newlands, Bettyhill.
