The past year has been a very busy and successful one for Scourie Village Hall.
It all began with a well supported New Year Party and Burns' Supper in January.
The ever-widening Feis community spread to Scourie with a local committee hosting their own Feis in February which included a tutors ceilidh that was well attended.
This led on to the Ceilidh Trail group making Scourie a venue on their circuit in August.
Slange Ava, an up and coming country band, made their first visit to the north-west in June and a very welcome return in November.
The Caithness Scorries featured at a foot stomping ceilidh in September and kept the dancefloor busy all night.
Then yet another band made their first visit to Scourie. Arranged by Rebecca Pearce, a self-confessed groupie, the Celtic rock band from Ross-shire, Rhythm'N'Reel, played to a packed hall last Wednesday night.
With many people home for the holidays, there was a true reunion atmosphere to the evening. People travelled from Kinlochbervie, Durness, Assynt and further afield to enjoy the music and catch up with old friends.
Each of these events helps to raise funds for the hall which is constantly in need of refurbishment and repair work. One recent project has been the improved insulation to the main hall for which partial grant funding was awarded. The benefit of this is clear with there being requests to turn the heating off, another first for Scourie Hall.
As with all similar buildings, the list of jobs is endless, so the fundraising must go on. Scourie Hall Committee would like to thank everyone who has supported them throughout 2011 and looks forward to seeing everyone in 2012.
